Selank is a synthetic analogue of tuftsin, a naturally occurring immunomodulatory tetrapeptide. Sequence TKPRPGP. Like Semax it was developed in Russia and the bulk of its literature comes from there.
Published rodent work has examined effects on memory and on brain-derived neurotrophic factor content in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex, and behaviour in withdrawal models.
Mechanism in the literature
As a tuftsin analogue, Selank is studied for both immunomodulatory and central nervous system activity. Published rodent studies report regulation of BDNF content in specific brain regions.
The evidence base is predominantly rodent research published in Russian journals. Selank has no marketing authorisation and is supplied for laboratory research only.
