Semax is a synthetic analogue of ACTH(4-10), developed in Russia and studied there across several decades. Its sequence is MEHFPGP, short enough to print in full on the product page.
The published work is largely rodent research on central nervous system activity. Eremin and colleagues reported in Neurochemical Research that Semax activates dopaminergic and serotoninergic systems in rodents; later work has examined behavioural and neurochemical endpoints in developmental models.
Mechanism in the literature
Semax derives from a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone but lacks its hormonal activity. Published rodent studies describe effects on dopaminergic and serotoninergic systems and on brain-derived neurotrophic factor.
Most of this literature is Russian-language rodent research, and much of it is untranslated. Semax holds no MHRA or FDA marketing authorisation and is supplied for laboratory research only.
